Today at Newmarket for the 16:10 Rossdales Maiden Fillies' Stakes over 7 furlongs, the ground is reported as Good, setting a fair stage for the young fillies. Leading our talk about the participants is Hassaleh, partnered by W Buick and prepared by C Appleby. Although Hassaleh is stepping out for the first time and has no form to review, the combination of Buick and Appleby cannot be ignored, especially with a cracking trainer strike rate of 47% over the last 180 days and a jockey-trainer combo success of 35.2% over 500 days. With a recent form haiku of zero races, zero wins, all eyes will be on how well Buick can pilot this debutante around the Newmarket turf. A maiden race hints at an open contest, but connections like these always raise punters' eyebrows (and hopes!). Next up is Pointe Bleu, trained by W J Haggas and ridden by Tom Marquand. Like Hassaleh, Pointe Bleu is yet to show what she can do on the racecourse with no races under her belt in the last 30 days. However, Haggas has maintained a respectable stable form, boasting a 19% win rate over the last 180 days. Marquand's experience cannot be shoved aside either; his 14% win rate over the last 60 days with Haggas bodes well. This filly could offer some value considering the less heralded yet potent partnership of her connections. Baandee, trained by Jack Morland and the mount of Daniel Muscutt, rounds out our spotlight analysis. Baandee shares her competitors' lack of track experience, which makes this a challenging punt. Morland's moderate 14% win rate over 180 days and Muscutt's 17% over the same period don't exactly scream 'banker'. However, every maiden race throws up a surprise or two, and perhaps Baandee could fit that shoe. Of the rest, La Mariposa could warrant a speculative glance with the lowest live price in the lineup, despite flimsy recent stats, suggesting that someone knows something we don't. Altogether, Hassaleh, backed by a powerhouse team, seems the most promising pick for those looking to flutter on this maiden run. Good luck to all, and remember to gamble responsibly!
