First out of the gates in our betting preview for the 17:15 race at Southwell is Sunniva, a 2-year-old filly, trained by B Ellison and ridden by Ben Robinson. Often in the firm realm of 'value' picks, she's fetching a live price of 4.5 in the betting markets. Sunniva hasn't lit up the track with victories, showing no wins in the past 30, 180, or even 720 days, which could make punters wary. However, there might be some hope with Ellison's stable pushing out a few winners recently, bagging 5 races out of 42 in the last month. Robinson's short-term form (20% strike rate over 14 days) indicates he is in decent nick, potentially giving Sunniva a bit of an edge today. Next in line is Blue Jammin, listed with longer odds at 10, indicating he might be a bit of a dark horse (pun intended!) in this nursery. This 2-year-old gelding hasn't won any races recently either, but his trainer, W Muir & C Grassick, and jockey, Frederick Larson, show some promise. Larson hasn't been exactly setting the track alight, but the occasional wins from Muir & Grassick's stable suggest that surprise might be on the cards. However, given the choice between consistent near-misses and random flashes of brilliance, betting aficionados might lean towards the former. Will He Shine, the third horse in our preview, is running at odds of 8.5. Much like our first two contenders, this colt shares a common theme of having a blank win column over the last few racing terms. Trainer A W Carroll and jockey Jack Doughty have been active but not particularly victorious in sizable measure. Carroll's horses have seen the winner's circle 52 times over the past 180 days across numerous entries, hinting at better race preparedness possibly coming into play for Will He Shine. While Sunniva, Blue Jammin, and Will He Shine struggle to flash winning forms, their training and jockey performances hint at potential underdog surprises. However, Sunniva, with Robinson in saddle, might just sneak past the post first, considering the jockey's current form and Ellison's adept handling of his runners. Fancy a flutter on Sunniva? Could be a smart move, but as always, remember to bet wisely and responsibly, folks! Good Luck!
